The project showcase is the section that matters most in a portfolio template. It's where the work lives.
What I Find Inspiring About This
A project grid has one real job: get out of the way of the work.
That sounds simple. It isn't. Too much structure and the grid overwhelms the imagery. Too little and everything feels unanchored. The spacing, the aspect ratios, the weight of the labels — every decision either adds friction between the viewer and the work, or removes it.
What I was going for in Orchid was a grid that feels effortless to scroll through. No clever hover states drawing attention to themselves, no layout gymnastics. Just the projects, presented clearly, with enough breathing room that each one registers before the next one arrives.
The imagery in the screenshot does a lot — but the layout had to be quiet enough to let it.
